PVC dowel bar sleeves that slip over one end of a dowel bar to debond it from the concrete, allowing the bar to slide freely as the slab expands and contracts while still transferring load across the movement joint. The closed, capped end leaves a void for approximately 10mm of end expansion. Supplied 100 per bag, sized to suit 12mm and 16mm dowel bars.

Dowel bar sleeves are a small but essential part of a correctly detailed movement joint. A dowel bar transfers load between two adjacent concrete slabs, keeping them level and preventing the joint from stepping or cracking under traffic. For the joint to work, one end of the bar must be free to slide as the slab expands and contracts with temperature — and that is exactly what the sleeve provides.

The PVC sleeve slips over one end of the dowel and debonds it from the surrounding concrete, so the bar can move horizontally within the sleeve while the other (bonded) end stays fixed in the adjacent slab. The closed, capped end of the sleeve leaves a small void of approximately 10mm, giving the bar room to move as the slab expands without the end bearing hard against the concrete.

Supplied 100 per bag and available to suit both 12mm and 16mm dowel bars, these sleeves are a cost-effective consumable for industrial floors, slabs, driveways, paths and ground beams wherever properly detailed expansion and contraction joints are required.

1. What does a dowel bar sleeve do?

It slips over one end of a dowel bar to debond it from the concrete, so the bar can slide as the slab expands and contracts while still transferring load across the joint.

2. How many sleeves come in a bag?

They are supplied 100 per bag.

3. Which dowel bars do they fit?

4. Why does the sleeve have a closed end?

The capped end leaves a void of around 10mm, giving the dowel room to move as the slab expands without bearing against the concrete.

5. Do I need a sleeve on both ends of the dowel?
