For spills on hard flooring, a loose granule is often the fastest way to soak up liquid and leave a dry, safe surface behind - simply scatter it on, work it in, then sweep up.

Oil-Dri granules are a classic mineral/clay-based absorbent, low-dust and hard-wearing under foot and vehicle traffic, best suited to oil, grease, fuel and other non-aggressive fluids on garage and workshop floors. Absonet Multisorb uses a finer natural clay (sepiolite), non-toxic and fireproof, for general non-aggressive spills on any hard surface including walkways, ramps and machinery bases, leaving a dry, residue-free finish.

Spill Aid takes a different approach, using a lightweight perlite (volcanic glass) granule that claims up to seven times its own weight in absorbency - meaning less product and less waste weight for the same size spill. It's rated for oil, fuel, solvents, paint, body fluids and most acids and alkalis (with the exception of hydrofluoric acid), and works on almost any surface including concrete, tarmac, carpet and metal.

All three are single-use and non-corrosive, safe on driveways and tarmac, and should be disposed of as contaminated waste once used according to what they've absorbed.

Oil-Dri Granules: 20L bag, mineral/clay-based, oil-only, low dust, tested to BS7959-1:2004, ~9.5L oil absorbency per bag
Absonet Multisorb Granules: 20L bag, fine natural clay (sepiolite), non-toxic, low-dust, fireproof, general/non-aggressive spills, ~10L absorbency per bag
Spill Aid Granules: 30L bag, lightweight perlite-based, up to 7x its own weight in absorbency (~21L per bag), usable on oil, fuel, solvents, most acids/alkalis and paint (except hydrofluoric acid)
Application: Pour, work in with a brush, sweep up
Use: Garage and workshop floors, walkways, ramps, machinery bases, driveways and tarmac

1. Can granules be used on chemical or acid spills?

Oil-Dri and Absonet are best for oil and other non-aggressive fluids only. Spill Aid is rated for most chemicals including many acids and alkalis, but not hydrofluoric acid.

2. How much liquid does one bag treat?

Roughly 9.5L for Oil-Dri, 10L for Absonet, and up to 21L for Spill Aid per bag, though actual coverage varies with the liquid's viscosity and the surface.

3. Are the granules reusable?

No, all three are single use - dispose of saturated granules as contaminated waste rather than sweeping them into general refuse.

4. Are they safe to use on driveways or tarmac?

Yes, all three formulations are non-corrosive and safe on concrete, tarmac and most hard surfaces.

5. Which formulation should I choose?

Oil-Dri or Absonet suit everyday oil and general spills at a lower cost per bag, while Spill Aid's higher absorbency and broader chemical compatibility suit sites needing to cover a wider range of liquids with less product.
