- Work at Height Regulations 2005 require all work at height with a risk of a fall likely to cause injury to be properly planned, supervised, and protected.
- Where collective fall protection such as safety netting is reasonably practicable, it must be used in preference to personal fall arrest equipment such as harnesses.
- Fall arrest nets must conform to BS EN 1263-1 and be installed and inspected by a competent person capable of assessing net integrity and anchor loads.
Fall arrest netting vs. debris netting: what's the difference?
Fall arrest netting (EN 1263-1) is designed to catch and decelerate a falling person, absorbing the energy of the fall without injury. It is installed horizontally beneath working platforms and must withstand specified drop test loads. Debris netting is a lighter product fitted vertically around scaffold structures to prevent tools and materials falling below. It is not rated for arresting human falls. Items falling from pallet racking cause hundreds of UK workplace injuries every year. SEMA guidance recommends fitting back-stop netting to the rear of open racking bays where a walkway or adjacent row is exposed. Bird netting for buildings and structures
Pest bird infestations cause structural damage through fouling, nesting material, and dislodged roof materials. UV-stabilised polyethylene bird netting is the most effective long-term deterrent, requiring no ongoing maintenance once installed. Aperture size varies by species: 19mm for sparrows and starlings, 50mm for pigeons. Our Bird Netting is available cut-to-size and in full rolls for larger installations.

How much debris netting do I need for a scaffold?
Measure the full perimeter of scaffold to be netted, multiplied by the height. Our 2m x 50m rolls cover 100m2 per roll. Allow approximately 10% additional for overlaps and fixing at 150β200mm joints.
Can I order custom-size safety netting?

What mesh size do I need for bird netting?
Use 19mm aperture netting for sparrows, starlings, and tits. For pigeons and larger birds, 50mm aperture is standard. For seagulls, 75mm is typically used. When in doubt, choose the smaller aperture for your target species.
