Our Flat Base Mesh Spacers (also known as Grade Plate Spacers) are an essential component for ground-slab concrete reinforcement. Unlike standard pointed spacers that can sink into the sub-base or pierce protective membranes, these spacers feature a wide, flat footprint that distributes the load evenly.

Manufactured from high-strength, heavy-duty plastic, they are designed to support the weight of steel mesh and rebarβ€”as well as the weight of site workersβ€”without collapsing or shifting. Each spacer is engineered with a dual-height design, allowing you to choose between two different cover depths simply by rotating the unit. This versatility makes them perfect for various applications, from domestic driveways to heavy-duty industrial floor slabs. Their open-frame design ensures excellent concrete flow, preventing air pockets and ensuring a monolithic bond.

Product Type: Flat Base / Grade Plate Reinforcement Spacer.

Available Sizes (Dual-Height):

25mm / 30mm

40mm / 50mm

65mm / 75mm

Material: 100% Heavy-duty recycled Polypropylene.

Compatibility: Suitable for steel mesh and rebar up to 20mm diameter.

Application: Ground-slabs, sand-blinding, and applications involving DPM (Damp Proof Membranes).

Stability: Large surface area base to prevent sinking or membrane puncture

1. Why use a flat base spacer instead of a standard one?

Standard spacers often have "feet" that can sink into soft sub-bases like sand or soil, which lowers the reinforcement and reduces the concrete cover. Flat base spacers distribute the weight, ensuring the steel remains at the correct height. They are also essential when using a Damp Proof Membrane (DPM), as they won't puncture the plastic.

2. How does the dual-height feature work?

Each spacer is designed with two different "cradle" heights. Depending on which way you place the spacer or the mesh within it, you can achieve two different concrete cover depths (e.g., 40mm or 50mm) with the same product.

3. How many spacers do I need per square meter?

As a general rule for standard mesh, we recommend 2 to 3 spacers per square meter. This ensures the mesh does not sag under its own weight or the weight of workers during the pour.

4. Are these spacers visible once the concrete is dry?

No. They are designed to be fully encased in the concrete. The open-profile design allows the wet concrete to flow through and around the spacer, ensuring it becomes an integral, invisible part of the slab.

5. Yes. These are manufactured from high-density polypropylene and are tested to withstand significant loads, making them suitable for both light fabric mesh and heavier reinforcement bars.

Can they support heavy rebar?
