The COCUS Continuous Wire Chairs (universally known in the trade as Hystools) are high-strength, 2-metre-long steel wire fabrications engineered to support top layers of reinforcement mesh or rebar in concrete slabs. When pouring suspended slabs, heavily loaded ground floors, or foundations, maintaining the exact vertical distance between your top and bottom steel layers is critical for structural load capacity.

Our continuous chairs feature a robust wave-like structural pattern that distributes weight evenly across a large surface area. This layout provides exceptional stable resistance against heavy site foot traffic and concrete pressure during the pour, completely preventing the upper reinforcement grid from collapsing or sagging.

We supply our wire chairs in seven precision heights to accommodate various slab thicknesses and cover profiles:

50mm & 75mm: Optimised for thin suspended slabs or standard residential ground rafts.

105mm & 120mm: The commercial standard for industrial floor slabs and external hardstandings.

135mm, 150mm & 165mm: Heavy-duty variants designed for deep civil foundation beams, water-retaining structures, and massive raft foundations.

Key Technical Features
- Rapid 2-Metre Linear Coverage: Supplied in convenient 2m lengths. They span large areas instantly, massively reducing installation times compared to tying individual single-point wire chairs.
- Stable Triangular Geometry: Designed with staggered, precision-welded legs and a running top wire. This structural shape ensures they remain upright and balanced, even when workers walk across the top mesh.
- Excellent Concrete Flow Integration: The open wire configuration presents zero obstruction to fluid concrete. It allows the aggregate mix to flow seamlessly through the framework, completely eliminating voids and honeycombing.
- Consistent Cover Accuracy: Manufactured to strict quality tolerances, guaranteeing that your upper reinforcement mesh sits exactly at the height specified by your structural engineer.
- Safe Protective Tips: Equipped with turned-up plastic-tipped or plain feet depending on specification, reducing the risk of puncturing damp-proof membranes (DPM) or gas barriers underneath the slab.

1. What is the main benefit of a continuous wire chair over standard individual spacer blocks?

Individual blocks or single wire chairs require meticulous layout spacing and tedious wire-tying to prevent them from tipping over when stepped on. A continuous 2m chair provides a solid linear rail that cannot tip sideways, offering far superior stability and speeding up your steel-fixing workflow by up to 70%.

2. Can these wire chairs be used directly on top of a plastic damp-proof membrane (DPM)?

Yes. Because the weight of the steel mesh is distributed evenly along the entire 2-metre wave profile rather than concentrating on single sharp points, the risk of tearing a plastic DPM is highly minimized. For extra protection on soft insulation or delicate membranes, we recommend using our dedicated plastic spacer tracking profiles underneath the feet.

3. Will the steel wire chairs rust and show through the surface of the finished concrete?

No. These chairs are specifically sized to sit inside the slab matrix. As long as you have selected the correct chair height that allows for the specified concrete cover above the top mesh (typically a minimum of 40mm to 50mm from the finished slab surface), the wire framework remains entirely encapsulated and protected from moisture.

4. Are these wire chairs strong enough to be walked on by concrete installation crews?

Absolutely. They are engineered from high-tensile drawn wire precisely for this purpose. When spaced correctly at 1-metre intervals, they comfortably support the weight of operatives walking across the reinforcement grid to manage the concrete pump hoses.

5. How do I choose the correct height of wire chair for my slab?

To find the perfect chair height, take the total depth of your overall concrete slab, subtract the required top concrete cover, subtract the required bottom concrete cover, and subtract the combined thickness of your top and bottom mesh sheets. The remaining middle gap is your ideal chair height.
